I believe your asking about Plastic piping used in plumbing situations.

ABS pipe is the material mostly used for any Plastic Plumbing Pipe Installation.

ABS Pipe & fittings are made from Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS for short).

The reason that these piping systems are more commonly used for plumbing whether it's ABS, PVC, CPVC or other Plastic materials is for the simple reason of cost.

Actually it is an Excellent method of pipe (ABS) to work with. And is a really easy material to handle. It's lightweight and easy to cut with an ABS saw.

Before they would use strictly cast iron piping for instance. Well just the name of it tells you how Heavy and cumbersome can be to install and also to cut. They use what are called no-hub bands for the connections. These are stainless steal bands for the connections.

Actually a long time ago they would join them with what is called lead and oakum. They would heat up the lead and use oakum to secure or hold in place the hot lead, in the joints or connections.
