Plumbing Pipe Differences: My Opinion on Different Piping Materials.

My Answer:

For use and duration I would say ABS Plastic Piping, for Drains. The Good Points are you can Install. By just using an ABS Saw and or 2″ ABS tubing cutters for 2″ and 1 1/2″ pipe.

ABS is very flexible, so you can adjust the angle or the pitch as you go along in the installation with a Torpedo level. And if your roughing in a New Installation and there is only dirt and the forms. All you need is a tape measure, a saw, and maybe a pick and a shovel and a jack hammer for heavier digging. Well unless you can get the General contractor to dig the trenches for you when their doing the forms.

For a repair or replacement of an existing house. You may need more tools. Although not that many. Say maybe a couple of drop lights and an ABS saw a grinder, a Saw saw, tape measure, ABS Cutters, and a Right angle drill. I have done several hundred homes and several hotels with just these. Well basically.

And I would have to probably have to say PEX piping but I actually prefer to use Copper Piping. For the following reasons, in the 80s I installed similar piping, called Quest and it was all removed eventually. PEX is an upgrade and actually even the city seems to go with plastic piping for gas.

But like I said I didn't say it's bad I just said that I prefer Metal piping for Water Piping since it's Under constant Pressure. And I also Prefer Metal piping for Gas. Another thing if you install plastic piing in the wall or in the attic mice can eat it and cause a leak or if someone drives a nail into the plastic piping. You CAN'T DRIVE A NAIL THROUGH STEEL PIPING ESPECIALLY FOR A GAS LINE INSTALLATION.

And like I said many plumbers will say it's the best stuff in the world?

And it's also way less in cost. But like I said I am not saying it's Bad I am just saying that is WHAT I PREFER For Drains ABS Plastic. For Water Piping, Copper Piping, American Made preferably. And for Gas LINES, STEEL. I Guess I am Just Supper Cautious.

It may end up costing Me More but I feel better in the long run, Because I have seen ABS Installations last 50 + years or more, just so long as there not in the SUN'S UV Rays. And I have seen Copper Piping Installations last upwards of 60 + years, if installed correctly, with a pressure regulator, and the piping strapped and installed with Quality Materials.

Like I said. Everyone has their preference.

Some people may like small cars. I prefer a Mid-Size V-8 Ford Van. I just feel more comfortable in my van. To Each His own. Se La Vie.
